The Schooner Story

Spirit of Independence is a shipbuilder’s masterpiece. Built to an 1800’s design, she was modified to be built of all modern materials. Her hull is steel with a gorgeous walnut and teak interior. Her main engine is John Deere with a Northern Lights generator. All of her equipment, mechanisms, and rigging are big ship quality. As a luxury sailing yacht she gives a very stable and comfortable sail. You’ll never see another ship quite as one-of-a-kind as the Spirit of Independence.

Spirit Of Independence was built by master shipbuilder, Captain J. C. Waters. She took 16 years to build up on a hill in Independence, Missouri. She was built to the absolute highest standards and made to sail around the world. Spirit was launched in 2005. She was sailed down the Missouri River, then to the Mississippi River, and finally to her home in Key West, Florida.
